Grocery Drama

We went to the grocery store today and I’ve again recommitted to not bring Isaak. He wanted to push his own cart and would barely let me touch it UNTIL he spotted gumdrops. Gumdrops. He ran down to the end of the aisle and tried to figure how to get them off the hook. I was relieved when I figured he couldn’t get them off. I told him he couldn’t have any, but that didn’t deter him-he kept tugging, so I in turn tugged him away. I was proud of myself and I thought I had a handle on the situation, then he looked up at me and said Please Mommy. I still said no. I’m made of steel right? We got about two aisles away and I set him back down so he could push his cart. He seemed resigned on the gumdrop idea, but I was WRONG! He darted back between my legs and grabbed unto those gumdrops and pulled with all his little boy might and the plastic broke! Down came the bag of gumdrops. Isaak was elated. He looked at me with the biggest smile on his face and placed them in the cart. I resigned. We broke the bag-we had to buy them…..at least he said please right? We did make him wait until we got to the car to eat them though--even though we had a full blown temper tantrum in the check out line when he saw me put them into the shopping bag. Cory had to pull him away. During this turmoil-Isaak apparently knocked the keys out of Cory’s hand and I didn’t notice, so when we got to the car we realized that we didn’t have any keys. I refused to take Isaak back inside. Cory luckily found the keys in about five minutes. Phew. But I’m sticking to my guns after this-No Isaak in the grocery store!!!!

It was probably worse for you than anyone else. I bet no one else even noticed. One day I will let you go with ALL of mine and then you will wish you only had him and it won't seem so bad!

This sounds familiar (minus the loosing the keys part- eeck!!!) I absolutely avoid shopping with AliCherie. I will say though that when I see others having "grocery drama" with their kids I feel utter sympathy for them and then I am thankful that it isn't me (because I leave AliCherie at home with James.) :D

That little Isaak of yours can be quite the handful. I am willing to bet going to the store with him is similar to going to the store with a dozen kids! I don't know if I am allowed to tell you this BUT my parents had 8 kids and ever since they met Isaak they will ask me how he is doing followed up with a comment about how much energy he has. My dad is convinced that Isaak has more energy than any child he has ever met.

Good news is, Isaak is pretty much the cutest kid ever.... seriously! If I were there, I would watch him and then you could go do the grocery shopping for the both of us! Ha ha ha ha :)

So funny! I'm with you though. I rarely take Izzy to the grocery store, I go when Mike is home so he can watch her.

July 29 Ward Lake & the Library Ketchikan

It's raining it's pouring the old man is snoring. He's really snoring. It's been down pouring since we got here last night and it poured all day long. We got up and headed out to Ward Lake to a BBQ with their church.  It's beautiful. The kids thought it was the best ever because they had donuts, chips, hot dogs, watermelon, cherries and cookies. Isaak of course immediately started playing with some kids his age. Chloe and Lydia frolicked around in the woods and played horseshoes. It stopped raining for maybe 10 minutes, but other than that it picked right back up. I was sure they were going to cancel the BBQ, but again the kids seemed indifferent to all the rain. Some of them were even kayaking. I was too busy freezing! The hike around the lake is 1.5 miles and we saw a beaver den sans beaver. We walked around the Lake and it was like being submerged in the rain forest. Well it's not like being submerged in a rain forest. We were in a rain forest called the Tong...

From me to him

Dear Isaak, Happy Birthday my little guy! It feels like just yesterday that you were literally pulled out to come into this world. Yes literally with forceps around your little head because you accidentally faced the wrong direction or maybe you faced the direction you wanted to. You didn’t seem like you were quite ready to come out because you were just wailing--almost like you were saying, “You know--I was perfectly comfortable in there.” I’ve learned this year that you surely know what you want and you will not stop until you get it. For example when we tried to spend the weekend away from home and you didn't like sleeping in your playpen! You woke up every 1/2 hour to let us know you weren't comfortable. You finally fell asleep around 3am when we put you on the bouncer. Cory slept with his arm around you on the floor so you didn't roll off. You weren’t going to come easy, eh?? I remember pushing and pushing and pushing and thinking this isn’t going how I thought that i...

The Farthest North Point & Settlers Cove

The rain continues to come down. I've never seen it rain like this before. Teana and Derek told us that the rain is more consistent with weather in October than in the summer, but weather.com promises that a warm front is in store for tomorrow. We went to church in an amazing building. The ward house was completely built in Cedar. Apparently the church shipped a cedar kit and the members of the church in the area worked with general contractors to put it together. It's beautiful and it smells so good!!! Chloe didn't want to go to primary by herself. At first I was trying tough love, but she started weeping. Okay. So she was actually trully scared. I sat with her in primary and then someone in the sharing time chose to sing Gethsemane. Chloe immediately relaxed. I was again aware of how much Heavenly Father cares for his children. Gethsemane is Chloe's favorite song and she always sings it when she's sad or asks us to sing it for her. She then said it was okay if I...
