the rest of my normal week

I realized after finishing my post that I forgot to mention a few huge things that I accomplished last week and they should be mentioned. The first being that I finished canning my bushel of pears!! I finished canning and jamming my half bushel of peaches. I also contemplated raspberry jam, but haven't made it yet. Now I have to go pick some apples to make a whole lot of apple sauce. I must also admit that I had help and in no way could I have ever done it alone. Thank you Carol and Marsha, which really means thank you for bottling my stuff while I chase Isaak around--you are awesome.

I also cut open my finger. I was trying to be all prepared for dinner by making pulled pork in the crock pot, but as I was cutting the onion--all went askew. I sliced into my finger and I felt it hit the bone. Then the blood--ewww--I remembered that fingers were bleeders, so naturally I stayed nice and calm-haha. I tried direct pressure and bandaging, but the blasted thing kept bleeding, so I contemplated getting stitches all day long. I learned in my WFR course that if the skin doens't fall together then you should get stitches. I looked at the sides gaping open and kept thinking--hmm maybe it's not that bad. I waited long enough that I couldn't get it stitched up. Several people suggested superglue, but I was afraid of infection and I must admit I didn't clean it as well as I should have--I'm a wuss(as I have previously stated) and it hurt. It also bugged me to watch my skin flap as I held it under the tap. But my little gapping wound has all closed up. So at first I regretted skipping the stitches, but now I'll have an awesome little scar to remind me of my first pulled pork, which was delicious and lasted for four meals!!!!

I got to see some awesome people last week. Yes--I'm talking about you Penny, Jennie, Aislinn, and Tina. It was fun to see you. I also got to talk to several great people Gina and Teana! Since I lost all my phone numbers it was great to have them give me a call. I also got called to be the Beehive Advisor in my Ward, which means I will be teaching young women about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I hope they like me. I'm really excited. I also got to see Cory study all the time!! He's getting ready to take the GMAT....yikes...can't wait until that's over. I wonder who came up with the idea of all these silly little tests that cost way too much money.

Cutting yourself while making dinner is the worst! I usually get really wussy when I see the blood (I'm a wimp).

Good luck on the GMAT. Let us know how it goes and how difficult it is cuz I'll be taking that one day!

You'll do great in that calling! And I was so happy to see you! Kristina said she'd love to get together too...
Congratulations on your new calling. You will do such an amazing job. You are so good at these kinds of things. You will have to show me your scars on your fingers since we will be neighbors on Friday.

July 29 Ward Lake & the Library Ketchikan

It's raining it's pouring the old man is snoring. He's really snoring. It's been down pouring since we got here last night and it poured all day long. We got up and headed out to Ward Lake to a BBQ with their church.  It's beautiful. The kids thought it was the best ever because they had donuts, chips, hot dogs, watermelon, cherries and cookies. Isaak of course immediately started playing with some kids his age. Chloe and Lydia frolicked around in the woods and played horseshoes. It stopped raining for maybe 10 minutes, but other than that it picked right back up. I was sure they were going to cancel the BBQ, but again the kids seemed indifferent to all the rain. Some of them were even kayaking. I was too busy freezing! The hike around the lake is 1.5 miles and we saw a beaver den sans beaver. We walked around the Lake and it was like being submerged in the rain forest. Well it's not like being submerged in a rain forest. We were in a rain forest called the Tong...

From me to him

Dear Isaak, Happy Birthday my little guy! It feels like just yesterday that you were literally pulled out to come into this world. Yes literally with forceps around your little head because you accidentally faced the wrong direction or maybe you faced the direction you wanted to. You didn’t seem like you were quite ready to come out because you were just wailing--almost like you were saying, “You know--I was perfectly comfortable in there.” I’ve learned this year that you surely know what you want and you will not stop until you get it. For example when we tried to spend the weekend away from home and you didn't like sleeping in your playpen! You woke up every 1/2 hour to let us know you weren't comfortable. You finally fell asleep around 3am when we put you on the bouncer. Cory slept with his arm around you on the floor so you didn't roll off. You weren’t going to come easy, eh?? I remember pushing and pushing and pushing and thinking this isn’t going how I thought that i...

The Farthest North Point & Settlers Cove

The rain continues to come down. I've never seen it rain like this before. Teana and Derek told us that the rain is more consistent with weather in October than in the summer, but weather.com promises that a warm front is in store for tomorrow. We went to church in an amazing building. The ward house was completely built in Cedar. Apparently the church shipped a cedar kit and the members of the church in the area worked with general contractors to put it together. It's beautiful and it smells so good!!! Chloe didn't want to go to primary by herself. At first I was trying tough love, but she started weeping. Okay. So she was actually trully scared. I sat with her in primary and then someone in the sharing time chose to sing Gethsemane. Chloe immediately relaxed. I was again aware of how much Heavenly Father cares for his children. Gethsemane is Chloe's favorite song and she always sings it when she's sad or asks us to sing it for her. She then said it was okay if I...
